The Imperial County Registrar of Voters has updated the results from the June 7, 2022, Primary Election.
The Thursday afternoon Unofficial Elections Results includes polling site, vote-by-mail, and provisional ballots. According to the Elections Department, this update includes nearly all ballots received but is not the final tally. The State of California says the election must be certified by July 7, 2022.
In the race for Superior Court Judge Seat 2, Jeffrey Jones defeated Kevin T. Merizalde Kelly 12,731 to 5,812.
Chuck Storey with 11,366 defeated Jacob Nicholas Rodriguez with 7.036 votes for County Clerk-Recorder.
For Sheriff, Fred Miramontes defeated Hilton Smith 13,797 to 4,831.
In the race for IID Division 1, Incumbent Alex Cardenas leads Andrew Arrival 1,945 votes to 1,887.
IID Division 3 will be a runoff in November. Gina Dockstader leads with 41.4% of the vote to Don Campbell's 22.22%.
IID Division 5 sees Karin Eugenio defeating incumbent Norma Sierra Galindo 2,210 votes to 1,949.
Board of Supervisors 1st District has Jesus Eduardo Escobar winning with 53.16% of the vote.
Board of Supervisors 5th District will see John Hawk and Raymond Castillo run again in November. Hawks has 48.29% to Castillo's 33.35%.
Assessor Robert Menvielle defeated Ricardo Avila 9,696 votes to 8,889.
The District Attorney race will go to November. Mario Vela has 33.1% of the Vote while George Marquez has 28.29
Measures Y, Z, and W all passed. Imperial Unified School District's Measure a failed.
The City of Imperial Measure V on the position of City Clerk is dead even 1,247 for and 1,247 against.
The race for State Assembly, 36th District will also go to the November ballot. Incumbent Eduardo Garcia carried Imperial County with 10,590 votes while Republican challenger Ian Weeks has 6,991. Riverside County is another story as weeks leads Garcia 18,066 to 17,038. Neither candidate getting the 50% plus 1 needed for a win. The third candidate, Democrat Marlon Ware was the spoiler.
