The Statewide Primary Election is set for June 7, 2022.
So far, the Imperial County ballot is almost set. Several local races are already being contested. The Board of Supervisors District 1 race is set with 3 candidates, Joong S. Kim, Briant Jesus Fabela Luna and incumbent Jesus Eduardo Escobar on the ballot. The District 3 race will see incumbent Raymond R. Castillo challenged by John Hawk and Carlos Zaragoza. The District Attorneys race filing period has been extended since incumbent Gilbert Otero has not filed for reelection. Already on the ballot are George Marquez, Jason Amavisca, Mario Vela and Edgard Garcia. Filing for Imperial County Sheriff has also been extended with Raymond Loera not seeking reelection. Fred S. Miramontes and Hilton W. Smith have filed. In Imperial Irrigation District Division 1, Andrew Arevalo is challenging incumbent Alex Cardenas. The filing for IID Division 3 has been extended as incumbent James Hanks is not seeking reelection. Don C. Campbell, Ramon Castro, Gina N. Dockstader and Maria Nava-Froelich have entered the race. IID Division 5 Director Norma Sierra Galindo is being challenged by Karin Eugenio. The filing for Auditor-Controller has been extended. So far, Karina B. Alvarez and Margarita Magallanes will be on the ballot. The Clerk-Recorder race will have incumbent Chuck Storey facing Jacob Nicholas Rodriguez. Assessor Robert F. Menvielle will run against Ricardo Avila. Filing for the County Treasurer-Tax Collector is extended as Karen Vogel is not running. Suzanne C. Bermudez is the only name on the ballot so far. County Superintendent of Schools Todd Finnell is unopposed.
There are two seats on the Imperial County Superior Court bench on the ballot. Judge Jeffrey B. Jones will face off against Kevin T. Merizalde Kelly. Judge Pole Flores, Jr is unopposed.
