Brawley City Councilman Ramon Castro is on a walk.
A long walk. Castro intends to walk from Friendship Park in San Ysidro and continue the hike for nearly 2,000 miles along the Mexican border. Castro is making the trek to draw attention to non-citizen U.S. veterans who have been deported , often for minor crimes or misdemeanors. Castro hopes to average 35 miles a day and arrive in Brownsville , Texas on August 11. Castro is a U.S. Marine veteran who served in Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He plans to participate in Brawley City Council meetings via Zoom.
