A cross-border tunnel that runs from Tijuana , Baja California , Mexico to an industrial area near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry has been discovered.
The tunnel , over three-quarters of a mile in length , is said to be the longest cross-border tunnel found yet in the Southwest border. The tunnel was discovered in late August of 2019 by a multi-agency investigati0n involving authorities on both sides of the border. The tunnel entrance was concealed in a small industrial building in Tijuana about one-half-mile west of the Otay Mesa crossing. The tunnel has a total length of 4,309 feet. Agents described the tunnel as five and a half feet tall ,two feet wide , with an average depth of 70 feet from the surface. It includes an extensive rail / cart system , forced air ventilation , high voltage electrical system , elevators and a complex drainage system. The tunnel reached over 4,000 feet into the U.S. with the exit in a warehouse district. No arrests have been made in connection with the tunnel.
