(Winds sweep through the Valley Wednesday)….39 mile per hour winds were recorded at the County Airport.
The winds did not cause much damage, but there was one incident that received national attention. Sections of the steel bollard border fence toppled over onto the Mexicali side of the international border. National news agencies reported the wind had blown the sections of fence over. Officials say those sections had recently been installed and the cement base had not completely settled and the moderate winds were able to push them over. The contractor was able to use equipment to pick up the steel sections and bring them back across the border. The incident occurred along a busy street in Mexicali, but no injuries were reported.
