Nearly a quarter-million dollars worth of methamphetamine was seized during a 24 hour stretch at the Highway 86 and Highway 111 Checkpoints.
On Monday , shortly after 9:00 a.m. , a Border Patrol canine team alerted to an SUV at the checkpoint. Upon further investigation Border Patrol agents discovered 55 pounds of meth hidden in the vehicle's gas tank. The driver , a U.S. citizen , was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Shortly before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday a 59-year old man was arrested after a canine team alerted to his pickup truck. Approximately 66 pounds of methamphetamine was found in several places on the pickup. The driver , a Lawfully Permitted Resident , was also turned over to the DEA. Total value of the meth was estimated at nearly $230,000.
