The Imperial Irrigation District has issued a Conserve Alert.

Due to continued high temperatures and forecasted high energy demand, the IID is asking customers to voluntarily conserve energy during peak hours from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The district says that they do not anticipate any shortages but voluntarily reducing energy use will reduce strain on the electric grid and support reliable service. Temperatures this weekend are expected to reach near 120 degrees. The IID suggests that you take steps to reduce energy use. Avoid using major appliances, set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, turn off unnecessary lights, use ceiling or floor fans when possible  and close shades, blinds, and drapes to help keep things cooler. The Conserve Alert is to run through Sunday, August 2 at 10:00 p.m.
