The Imperial irrigation District set a new energy record.
According to the District, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m., the demand for electrical energy hit 1,177 megawatts, an all-time high demand by the district's electrical customers. IID General Manager Jamie Asbury said, " The system held well, despite the high temperatures and increased energy demand". Asbury congratulated the IID's Power Department employees and consumers for helping to keep the system working. The district was able to meet the high energy load, avoiding rolling outages experienced in other areas. The new power demand peak surpassed IID's previous peak record by 25 megawatts. One megawatt can roughly provide power to about 1,000 households.
