The update indicates the Border Patrol recorded about 58,000 encounters between ports of entry along the southwest border. The August encounters were 68% lower than they were in August 2023. This keeps the Border Patrol on track to record the lowest number of annual apprehensions along the southwest border since 2020, and lower than the monthly average since 2019. Through the end of August, the CBP seized over 19,600 pounds of Fentanyl. That is an increase over fiscal years 2023 and 2024. Nationwide narcotics seizures have increased.
