A man ended up in jail after a hit and run accident Friday afternoon.

The accident was reported at 3:35 p.m. in the 1200 block of Even Hewes Highway in El Centro. A blue car ran into a fence and knocked down a traffic sign. The car took off and was eventually stopped by the California Highway Patrol on Villa Road just east of Dogwood Road. Initially, the driver refused to get out of his car but eventually exited the vehicle and was arrested. The 44-year-old man was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence and Hit and Run.
