The Imperial County Registrar of Voters has released the Unofficial Final Results from the June 77, 2022, Primary Election.

The race for Imperial Irrigation District Division 1 seat shows incumbent Alex Cardenas defeating challenger Andrew Arevalo by 59 votes, !,952 to 1,893. The IID Division 3 race will be on the November ballot with Gina Dockstader and Don Campbell in a run-off. Dockstader garnered 41.46 percent of the vote, Campbell 22.14 percent to narrowly outpace Ramon Castro with 21.79 percent. Karin Eugenio has unseated Norma Sierra Galindo for the IID Division 5 seat. 

The Imperial County Board of Supervisor 5th District race will be decided in November. John Hawk has 48.31 percent of the vote to incumbent Raymond Castillo's 33.38 percent. Carlos Zaragoza ended up with 18.31 percent. Jesus Eduardo Escobar will retain his seat representing the Board of Supervisors Division 1. Escobar picked up 53.14 percent of the votes to defeat two challengers. 

The contest for District Attorney will also go to the November ballot. Mario Vela got 33.08 percent and George Marquez 28.28 percent. 

Robert Menvielle has been reelected Assessor defeating Ricardo Avila 9,753 to 8,947. 

Chuck Storey defeated Jacob Nicholas Rodriguez to remain County Clerk-Recorder.

Fred Miramontes will be the next Sheriff s he defeated Hilton Smith 13,877 votes to 4,873.

Judge Jeffrey Jones defeated challenger Kevin T. Merizale Kelly 12,809 votes to 5,849. 

Measure A for Imperial Unified School District failed to get the needed 55 percent yes votes.

The El Centro Elementary School District Measure Y was defeated.

Measures W and Z for Westmorland Schools passed.

Measure V on wether the Imperial City Clerk should be appointed or elected is deadlocked with 1,257 yeas and 1,257 no. 

Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia will have to runoff against Ian Weeks in November. The Democrat incumbent Garcia carried Imperial County but Republican challenger Weeks carried Riverside County with neither candidate earning the necessary 50 percent plus 1 to win outright. 

Voter turnout is slightly more than 22.5 percent of registered voters. 

The numbers are final but unofficial as a random sample, 1 percent, of the ballots must be canvases. The Official Certified Results must be filed by July 7, 2022.
