(IID Board tradition)...This week they declared the month of May as Water Safety Month.
The action paves the way for their mascot Dippy Duck to share the water safety message with school children across Imperial County as the school years begins to wind down. The message will be promoted throughout the hot summer months, as well. Because of the pandemic, the 2022 campaign, Stay Alive, Play Safe, Be Cool, is being presented virtually to local schools. The water safety program began April 28 and will continue through June 9, reinforcing Dippy Ducks 3 rules; Never Swim in a canal, Never play near a canal, and never jump into a canal. Dippy Duck has been promoting water safety for the past 56 years, making his first appearance in 1966. The IID hopes to, again, reach as many as 21,000 students, raising awareness about the dangers of canals while promoting safe practices. The Imperial Irrigation District Directors officially declared water safety month at their meeting Tuesday.
