A single vehicle traffic accident blocked southbound Highway 86 at Twin Bridges near Brawley Saturday afternoon.

The accident was reported at 12:50 p.m. Reports indicate that a car was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Highway 86 when it went out of control and struck a guard rail. The vehicle was split in half. The driver apparently escaped with what were said to be minor injuries. Traffic was being diverted around the accident scene while the vehicle was removed and debris was cleared from the roadway. The accident remains under investigation
