A subsidiary of a Swedish company has announced that they will build a 54GWh Gigafactory in the Imperial Valley.

The company, Statevolt, will utilize locally produced lithium and geothermal power at the facility. The company has signed a Letter of Intent with Controlled Thermal Resources to deliver the sustainable, locally produced lithium and geothermal power from CTR's to-be constructed Hell's Kitchen Lithium and Power development. Once fully operational, the $4 billion facility will be one of the largest in North America, with a battery production capacity of producing batteries for around 650,000 electric vehicles a year at full capacity. According to Statevolt, the factory will help stimulate the development of a new micro-industry in the area and deliver up to 2,500 direct jobs for Imperial Valley and the region.
