(IID says the plan worked)...They have recovered millions in unpaid balances.

The Imperial Irrigation District says in December of last year, the District was faced with nearly $11.3 million in unpaid balances for electrical service. In February, understanding many customers were facing a financial hardship due to the pandemic and with unpaid electric account balances on the rise, the District enrolled 9,000 ccustomers who had an outstanding balance of $50 or more into an installment plan. The IID worked with customers on their plan, while providing any available assistance through the district's own income-qualified programs, as well as actively working to make customer referrals to partner agencies for financial help. As a result, some $7 million in past delinquencies are now up to date, leaving a balance of $4.3 million, which includes both active and inactive residential and commercial customers. IID says they will continue to work to recover the balance through on-going installment plans and customer referral to financial resources. The District says they are also looking for increased assistance from the state
