Ioan Laurint was charged in the February 2017 murder of El Centro attorney Ann Marie Zimmerman. She was found deceased in an El Centro Motel room shared with the suspect. Since then, several obstacles have been presented, including questioning the defendants mental capacity to stand trial. The latest obstacle was cleared this month after the superior court judge denied a motion to suppress certain evidence. The Judge set the next court date on September 16 for a pre-trial and to set jury selection and trial dates.
