An El Centro man says he was scammed out of $1,000.

The man reported to El Centro police that he was contacted by someone pretending to be with the Imperial Irrigation District and told his power would be shut off if he didn't pay $1,035.85. The man was instructed to make the payments through three gift cards. Police are investigating.
