A man smuggling drugs attempted to flee from U. S. Border Patrol agents.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning when a Ford Fusion was referred to secondary inspection at the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City. The driver did not comply and continued north. The driver attempted to evade pursuers by going off road and eventually became disabled. The driver then attempted to run from the cr but was captured. A search of the car led to the discovery of 22 grams of fentanyl. The driver was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office.
