(The Newton-Azrak Award)...It was presented to a local Border Patrol agent.
It is the US Border Patrol's highest award. It was presented to Agent C. Lara earlier this month. Lara was assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol Station whn, on February 18, 2019, he rescued a man from the All American Canal. During his shift, Lara responded to an illegal alien struggling to swim across the canal. Several attempts were mad to assist the drowning man, using a rescue disc from the water's edge. Knowing the man would soon give in to exhaustion, Lara jumped into the treacherous waters and swam toward the man. Agent Lara was able to grab the man and pull him out of imminent danger. The Border Patrol says Lara's heroism and disregard for his own personal safety, saved the man's life. Lara was presented the award for going beyond the call of duty by risking his own life to save the life of another.
