(Child hit by SUV)....It happened Tuesday evening.

The tragedy occured in Thrmal. The California Highway Patrol says at 7:00 pm a 17 year old Salton City rsident was backing up a GMC Yukon SUV, when the one year old, also a rsident of Salton City, ran behind the vehicl. The 17 year old said he did not see the child, and he backed over the baby. The child suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced at the scene. The CHP says alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The Highway Patrol is investigating the tragic incident.
