(IID warns customers)....They say fraudulent calls are on the increase.
The Imperial Irrigation District says in the last few days they have received a number of reports from customers who have been contacted by unscrupulous individuals who thraten that the customer's electric service will be disconnected if action is not urgently taken. They say the scammers often demand customers pay something immediately, threatening reconnection fes, legal costs, damaged credit reports, etc. The IID is urging customers to be vigilant during these challenging times and do their due diligence. Danny Hurtado Jr., IID's Customer Call Center supervisor says if it doesn't sound right, it may very well be wrong. The District's Security, Claims and Investigations unit is tracing the calls and emails to shut them down. Customers are urged to call Customer Service if they get a suspicious call. They say the current uptick in fraud comes at a time when the IID is actively reaching out to its customer base through phone, email and written communications to notify them of new payment plans for those who have fallen behind on their utility bills.
