(Two rescues)…Both were in the Jacumba Wilderness region.
The first incident was reported Friday. At around 4:40 in the afternoon, El Centro Sector Border Patrol was notified by the California Highway Patrol of a distress call received from a group of 3 individuals. Within 10 minutes, Border Patrol agents in the area were able to contract one of the individual by telephone. The person gave agents a description of their location, and agents were able to locate the three within an hour. The agents called for Emergency Medical Services and asked that they meet at the County Fire substation in Ocotillo. At 6:17 an AMR Ambulance arrived and checked the three. The two men did not require medical assistance, but a woman, who was going in and out of consciousness, was transported to a local hospital. The second incident was reported early Monday morning. The CHP notified Border Patrol of five individuals, who had reported they were lost and out of water. BORTAC agents and Horse Patrol agents found the group at 1:40 in the morning. They were evaluated and it was determined no medical attention was needed. All those rescued were Mexican Nationals and all 8 were eventually returned to Mexico.
