Customs and Border Protection had little to add to the information about the officer involved shooting at the Calexico port of entry.

According to a statement released by Pete Flores , Director of Field Operations for U. S. Customs and Border Protection in San Diego , at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday , a man entered the pedestrian processing building at the downtown Calexico port of entry. A CBP officer checking traveler's documents and a contracted security guard encountered the man brandishing a knife. As the man approached the CBP officer and the security guard with the knife , both drew and fired their weapons striking the man. Two CBP officers trained as first medical responders arrived and provided aid but the man died. Processing of northbound pedestrian traffic was suspended immediately and did not resume for about 8 hours. The U. S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General , The FBI , and CBP Office of Professional Responsibility are investigating the shooting. According to Flores , CBP is also coordinating with the Mexican Consul General in San Diego and Calexico , Mexican Tax Administration Service , and the Mexicali Police Department.
