The numbers released by the County Health Department Saturday show a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in the Imperial Valley.

The number of deaths recorded from Saturday , June 13 to Saturday June 20 increased by 21 , from 43 to 64. Of the deaths recorded , 41 are individuals 60 years of age or older. Over the same period the number of positive cases jumped from 4,157 to 4,800. That's an increase of 643 on the week. The number of active cases decreased by 214 , going from 1,153 to 839. Results from an additional 4,911 individuals tested were reported over the week. 

The imperial County Public Health Department has received help from the State of California and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with additional personnel for tracking and reporting COVID-19 contacts.
