Imperial County Public Health Officer Dr. Stephan Munday says that health department staff is working to monitor the situation.
Dr. Munday , " We understand that this can be a stressful time for residents of Imperial County with everything they are hearing about the situation in China. " He added that there are no confirmed cases in Imperial County. The Department's epidemiology staff is conducting enhanced surveillance for respiratory illnesses which is done year-round , including a Severe Acute Respiratory Infections surveillance at the two local hospitals. Dr. Munday added that the incubation period for the 2019 novel coronavirus and other related coronaviruses seems to be about 2 weeks and said that individuals who have travelled to China are required to " self-quarantine " for two weeks and contact the health department.
