A small, single engine plane crashed Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported at about 9:20 a.m. at Blowsand Hill in the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area. Initial indications are that the pilot, the only occupant of the plane, was pronounced dead at the scene. CalFire and California State Parks responded to the site. The accident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
