A pickup truck crashed and burned after running off the roadway.
The accident was reported at about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on westbound Interstate 8 about 2 miles east of Mt. Springs Road. The California Highway Patrol said that the pickup ran off the right side of the highway and came to rest about 75 feet off the roadway and down a 30 foot ravine. The truck was fully engulfed in flames. The single occupant of the truck was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with a reported fractured arm and lacerations. The wrecked truck was to remain on site until Wednesday morning when a tow truck would be able to retrieve it.
