(Celebrations all weekend)…They started Friday.
The celebration is for Mexican Independence Day. It all started in Calexico Friday. The City, The Mexican Consulate and the Business Improvement District hosted the event at Crummett Park. The celebration included the Mayor of Mexicali and other dignitaries. Saturday the City of El Centro and the Mexican Consulate in Calexico hosted a family oriented event at Bucklin Park. The center of both celebrations was the Grito de Dolores. Thousands turned out Sunday for their annual celebration. The Grito was delivered at mid-night going into September 16th, the actual Independence Day in Mexico. The celebration continued after the Grito, resulting in lines up 3 hours long coming across the border early Monday morning.
