A traffic stop last week took $700,000 worth of drugs off the streets.

On Thursday, July 30, Imperial County Sheriff's deputies assigned to the Winterhaven Sub-Station made a traffic stop on vehicle for multiple violations. The driver denied deputies consent to search the vehicle, so a Customs and Border Protection K-9 Team was called for assistance. The canine alerted to the vehicle and a search led to the discovery of over 53 pounds of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine. The male driver and his female passenger were found to have multiple prior narcotics convictions. Both were booked into Imperial County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale, Transportation of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Prior Convictions.
