It passed out of the chamber on a 64-1 vote. The legislation would formally recognize two Muslim Holidays as State Holidays. The bill now moves on to the senate. If it is approved by the Senate, the two major Muslim Holidays would be added to California's list of officially recognized holidays. The bill would also authorize public schools and community colleges to close on those holidays under certain circumstances, among other issues.
