U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found more than a ton of methamphetamine in a tractor-trailer rig.

On October 3, CBP officers at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry encountered an apparently empty tractor-trailer  crossing from Mexico into the United States. The 40-year-old driver and big rig were sent to secondary inspection where non-intrusive screening technology scanned the vehicle. Anomalies were found in the floor frame of the tractor-trailer. A CBP K-9 team alerted to the big rig. Officers were able to locate 265 packages hidden in the floor frame. The packages contained methamphetamine, totaling nearly 2,700 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $3.2 million. The driver, a valid border crossing card holder, was arrested.
