It also means off-roading. Labor Day weekend is one of the top off-road weekends of the year, behind New Years and Thanksgiving weekend. The desert population grows into the tens of thousands, sometimes more. The California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement entities are out in force, in an attempt to keep roadways safe. Monday Labor Day, means government offices, Banks, schools and more are closed. Emergency responders are available, however.
