(The McCain Fire is now 87% contained)....The brush fire began Last Monday afternoon.
A vehicle collision was reported on westbound Interstate 8 near Corrizo Gorge. One of the vehicles rolled and caught fire. Nearby brush caaught fire and began to spread. The California Highway Patrol call Cal Fire. Fire officials said when they arrived, the fire had spread to about 20 acres, and was growing. At the update Friday morning, Fir officials said the fire had burned almost 1,600 acres. During the update they said the fire was pretty much contained, and much of the effort was demobilizing the excess resources and disbanding the incident management team. All evacuation orders had been lifted. Six fire engines and their crews remained on scene. The remaining crews were continuing to bring the fire under control. Officials say the main problem now are the high temperatures. The fear is heat related illness to the fire fighters. They have installed additional Hydration stations, as well as more shade structures. Several structures were threatened by the fire, but none were damaged. One fire fighter was injured. The extent of the injury has not been revealed.
