(An update on the Thompson fire was issued Friday morning)...The fire in Butte County started on July 2nd.

Officials say they have made substantial progress on the fire. They say it went from 7% contained Thursday to 46% contained Friday. There are currently 2,219 fire fighters on scene. Among them is a Strike Team from Imperial County.. Crews in the Thompson Fire are also combating extreme temperatures, but they are still making progress. Most evacuation orders have been lifted, but evacuation warnings remain in effect. Evacuation shelters remain open for humans, as well as small and large animals. All the parks remain closed.
