A brush fire that was started Monday afternoon by a car accident continues to burn.

The Mccain Fire had scorched nearly 1,400 acres by late Tuesday afternoon. The fire is burning in dense brush north of Interstate 8, near the eastern San Diego community of Jacumba. According to CalFire, there are 223 personnel battling the blaze with 4 helicopters, 14 engines, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders and assorted other equipment. As of late Tuesday the fire was 30 percent contained. Evacuation orders had been issued for a number of nearby resident but have since been lifted.
