An SUV ran off the road and overturned late Monday morning.

The accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 8 west of Ocotillo. The SUV was reported to be travelling at a high rate of speed shortly before the accident. The driver of the vehicle was trapped for a time as U.S. Border Patrol agents tried to free them from the wreckage. One of the eastbound traffic lanes was shut down for first responders to work. The lane was reopened about an hour later. The driver was reported to have sustained major injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
