Steven George Ambriz has been found guilty of murder.

An Imperial County jury returned a verdict of guilty on three of four counts including Murder in the First Degree. Ambriz was convicted of killing Jordan Schmidt in December of 2021. Schmidts body was found on the outskirts of Brawley, just off Western Avenue. Investigators determined that Ambriz took Schmidt to the site at gunpoint and executed him. Ambriz had been charged with four counts including First Degree Murder, Kidnapping, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. Ambriz was found guilty on all counts except kidnapping. Sentencing is scheduled for August 8, 2024. Ambriz is facing up to 75 years to life. The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Margaret Tafoya.
