(Officer involved shooting in Calexico)....It happened on February 21.

A woman called Calexico Police to report her son was trying to break into her house. Police responded to the 700 block of Grant Street. They found the suspect at the front door with a crowbar. He was trying to  break into the house. Police made contact with the suspect, and he began approaching the police at a fast pace. He was still carrying the crowbar. Police say the suspect stopped. They say he took a batting stance as he approached the officers. As he closed in on the officers, they say it caused fear of imminent danger.. In response, the officer discharged his sidearm, striking the subject. The suspect was detained and officers provided life saving treatment, Calexico Fire Paramedics arrived and the subject was airlifted to a San Diego Hospital. The County District Attorney's Office was notified, and they took over the investigation with the assistance of the Imperial County Special Investigations Unit.. Calexico Police say they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
