Police are investigating an early Tuesday morning hit and run accident.

The accident, in the 3600 block of Rebecca Street in El Centro, was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. A nearby resident heard the crash and then saw a man jump out a damaged car that was in the middle of the street. The apparent driver was last seen running north on 4th Street. The suspect's car received major front-end and tire damage. The registered owner of the car was contacted by police, and he told them that a friend was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
