A man is in Imperial County Jail following an early morning traffic stop in El Centro.

Shortly after midnight Tuesday morning an El Centro police officer stopped a vehicle at 4th Street and Wake Avenue. The driver of the car initially failed to respond to the officer and was then seen talking on his phone. After a brief delay, the driver and a passenger were detained. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested and charged with Auto Theft, drug charges and Carrying a Concealed Dirk or Dagger. He was booked into Imperial County Jail. The woman passenger was released without charges. El Centro police learned that the man had apparently burglarized an ex-girlfriend's house and stole her wallet and car keys.
