(CBP seizes almost $150,000)....Money can legally be transported across the border.

But the law says if it is $10,000 or more, it must be declared. So far this month three people have been arrested for attempting to smuggle money. The first two incidents were reported in Calexico. Two people were caught trying to smuggle US Currency into Mexico. Customs and Border Protection were conducting routine outbound inspections. The first motorist was found to have $45,988 hidden under his clothes. Another motorist was found with $53,105 taped to his legs. Three days later, a vehicle crossing the San Ysidro port was sent to the secondary inspection area. CBP officers found several bundles of undeclared US Currency totaling $49,600. In all 3 incidents the currency and vehicles were seized. The drivers, however, were released from CBP custody.
