A brush fire is burning in eastern San Diego County.

The Monte Fire has so far consumed more than 400 acres near lakeside. According to CalFire, as of Wednesday morning, the fire activity has been reduced and is now moving at a slow rate of speed. There are 180 personnel assigned to the fire with 20 engines, 2 water tenders and 3 helicopters working the blaze. The terrain is steep and rocky, and some crews had to be flown to the burn site in helicopters. Three firefighters have been injured fighting the blaze. 

As of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday nearly 900 acres have burned.
