A fast-moving brush fire is burning in the Barrett Junction area near Tecate.

According to CalFire, the blaze broke out shortly after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday and by 6:00 p.m. it grew to over 1,400 acres. Evacuation orders were issued for the Barrett Lake Road and several other areas. State Route 94 was closed. Sources said as many as 200 firefighters were battling the fire as it moved eastward. U. S. Customs and Border Protection closed the Tecate Port of Entry at about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday following guidance from local fire officials. CBP officials will reopen the port facility, when safe, based on assessments of local conditions.
