(Mexico's Independence Day is September 16)...It is celebrated in Mexico with the Grito de Dolores at mid-night September 16.

El Centro traditionally marks the occasion with a Grito celebration. It is hosted by the City of El Centro and the Mexican Consulate in Calexico. This year will be no different. The City is inviting the community to celebrate Mexican Independence on Saturday September 17. The event this year will be held at Bucklin Park, beginning at 6:00 pm. The celebration this year will be honoring Mexican Cultural Icon, Frida Kahlo, with diverse activities that include Frida Kahlo photography, Frida and Diego Look A Like contest, Live entertainment, and food vendors. The event will be hosted by entertainer Gerardo Venegas. The entertainment will be headlined by Los Aferrados de la Sierra, a norteno band from Mexicali.
