Over 108 pounds of methamphetamine was found hidden in an SUV. Thursday.
A U.S. Border Patrol K-9 team alerted to the vehicle at the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City. An inspection of the SUV led to the discovery of vacuum sealed package of methamphetamine concealed in the fuel tank, rear quarter panels, three of the four doors and underneath the center console. A total of 108.5 pounds of the illegal narcotic valued at nearly $380,000. The driver and a passenger were arrested.
At about 5:10 p.m. Thursday, a Border Patrol Intelligence Unit was conducting anti-smuggling operations on Interstate 8 and made a traffic stop on a car just off California State Route 2. A Bureau of Land Management K-9 team assisted in the stop and the K-9 alerted to the car. A search led to the discovery of nearly 30 pounds of methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs is nearly $54,000. The driver, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested.
