(Brawley native designated for assignment)...39 year old Sergio Romo had been struggling this season.
He has an era of 8.16 in 17 relief appearances. He spent a month on the injured list with inflammation in his right shoulder. Romo has played 15 major league seasons, with 137 saves. His most productive years were with the San Francisco Giants, where he was an All-Star in 2013 and was a 3-time World Series Champion. Since leaving the Giants Romo has played with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Miami, Minnesota and Oakland before joining Seattle. The Mariners say Romo and Roenis Elias were cut to make room for reliever Ken Giles and infielder Kevin Padlo on the active roster.
