(A series of fires over the weekend)....County Fire Chief Estrada said Monday morning the fires were most likely set on purpose.
He said they were being investigated as suspicious fires. There were around ten haystack fires. Some of those ignited brush fires. Most of the fires were in the north-end. The Chief said the investigation is being conducted by the County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of County Fire. The Chief said as far as he knew, no arrests had been made. County fire received mutual aid from the Cities of Holtville, Calipatria, Brawley, Westmorland and El Centro. The Chief said the fires were pretty much out, though the Brandt fire flared up a couple of times on Sunday. He said there is not a lot of information available. He said all the information gathered by County Fire was turned over to the Sheriff's Investigators. No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
