Imperial County firefighters have been busy with multiple haystack and brush fires.
Starting Saturday afternoon and continuing through the night someone started burning haystacks and igniting brush fires. At least 10 fires were reported over a several hour period Saturday afternoon. Most of the fires in the north and east side of the Valley. Local fire fighting resources were stretched to the limits. Imperial County Fire, with mutual aid from the Cities of Holtville, Calipatria, Brawley, Westmorland and El Centro, were busy all day and into the night. Several more fires were also reported overnight. One haystack fire at Brandt and McFadden Roads flared up late Sunday morning and developed into a 3-alarm blaze. Initial information from a witness stated that a black Jeep was seen leaving the area of one of the north end blazes. Several individuals were questioned but it is unknown wether there was anyone taken into custody.
