A Friday afternoon accident in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area claimed the life of a man.

According to the California Highway Patrol ( CHP ) , shortly after 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon a 2022 CanAm Maverick UTV driven by 25-year-old Bianglang Li of Los Angeles. The UTV was heading south along the side of a sand dune when the UTV overturned and rolled down the hill. A passenger in the vehicle was partially ejected and suffered fatal injuries. Li and two other passengers were not injured. The fatally injured man is 29-years-old and from Walnut, California. His name was not released. According to the initial investigation all four individuals were wearing proper safety equipment. The crash remains under investigation.
