El Centro police are investigating another theft involving a catalytic convertor.
At about 4:30 Thursday morning a resident reported seeing two subjects underneath her neighbor's car. The pair were in the process of removing the catalytic convertor from the car. The pair were last seen leaving the scene in a getaway car. Catalytic convertors are increasingly the target of thieves. The convertors contain rare earth metals that may bring $50.00 from a recycler yet cost in the neighborhood of $1,00 to $1,500 to replace. Catalytic convertors do not have a serial number and are nearly impossible to trace.
